Math and Technology Program

The Math and Technology Program is a summer camp for Nevada students who will enter grade 7 or 8 in the fall. The program aims to provide students with hands-on experience in math and technology.

Program Details

• Director: Dr. Lynda R. Wiest, Professor of Education, University of Nevada, Reno
• Assistant Director: Dr. Heather Crawford-Ferre, Education Programs Professional, Nevada Dept. of Ed.
• Invited participants: Nevada students who will enter grade 7 or 8 in Fall 2025
• Camper selection: Approximately 50 campers will be selected randomly from those who meet the application deadline.
• Location: University of Nevada, Reno campus
• Time frame: Sunday, July 13 at 5 p.m. to Friday, July 18 at 3:15 p.m.
• Instructors: 3 instructors (2 classroom, 1 computer lab) and 2 instructional assistants per group of 25 campers
• Instructional topics: geometry/spatial skills, problem solving/reasoning, computer/calculator use, data analysis and probability (younger group only), early algebra (older group only)
• Instructional philosophy/approach: Campers will learn new material and explore familiar topics in greater depth through meaning-oriented, collaborative approaches.
• Cost: $600 per camper, includes tuition, housing, meals and snacks, group recreation, camp t-shirt, math souvenir, and other associated costs.
• Scholarships: Available to those with demonstrated financial need by documentation of free or reduced-price school lunch status.
